Khaberni -American media reported today, Wednesday, that about 1350 employees at the US State Department were laid off.

The "New York Times" quoted current and former officials as saying that analysts specialized in the Russia and Ukraine dossier from the intelligence office were among those laid off.

Earlier, a US State Department official stated that the department is in the process of dismissing more than 1300 diplomats and government employees as part of President Donald Trump's administration plan.

A senior official said that the department is about to send layoff notifications to 1107 civilian employees and 246 officials in the foreign service who have domestic duties in America.

The Trump administration had sought to restructure American diplomacy and worked hard to reduce the size of the federal government, including mass layoffs as part of steps aimed at dismantling entire departments such as the US Agency for International Development and the Department of Education.

A recent ruling issued by the Supreme Court paved the way for layoffs to begin, while lawsuits challenging the legality of the reduction continue.

The department had officially informed employees last Thursday that it would soon send layoff notices to some of them.
