Goodbye Long Searches WhatsApp Tests New Button on iPhone

Khaberni  - In long conversations on the WhatsApp app, trying to find an old message can become a tedious process, especially when the chat spans years and includes thousands of messages, photos, and links. To solve this problem, WhatsApp is working on adding a new shortcut that allows iPhone users to directly access the search tool within the conversation.

A recent report published by "9 to 5 Mac" (9to5Mac) reveals that the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS includes indications of a new in-conversation search tool, differing from the current search method. The goal is to enable a custom button within the chat interface that allows users to start searching without needing to leave the conversation or open its details.

Faster Search Within the Conversation

WhatsApp already allows message searching, but accessing this feature on iPhone currently requires going through conversation options. The design being tested aims to reduce the number of steps, making search access more direct while browsing the chat.

According to reports, a dedicated search button within the chat will appear, through which the user can move to the search mode and type a word or phrase to find relevant messages. This step is particularly important for group chats or conversations with a long history of messages.

For example, if a user wants to find an address sent by a friend months ago, a link to an article, or details of a meeting agreed upon in an old conversation, the new shortcut could save them from returning to the conversation settings menu to access the search.

Why is the Feature Important?

Although searching within conversations is not a new function in WhatsApp, improving access to it reflects a growing trend within the app towards making its tools easier to use, especially with the increasing size of conversations that users keep for years.

The problem becomes more apparent in work and family groups and conversations that are used as a repository for links, files, and information. In these cases, the difficulty lies not in the existence of the search tool, but in accessing it quickly and then finding the required content.

The shortcut could also be useful for a user who is already browsing a specific conversation, as they can move directly to the search instead of going back to another screen and then selecting the conversation again.

Not Available to Everyone Yet

It's important to note that the new button has not been officially released to all iPhone users yet, and information available indicates that WhatsApp is still working on it within a beta version, which means that the design and functionalities may change before its official launch.

This is not the first time that WhatsApp has tested search enhancements on iPhone devices. In June of last year, the app began rolling out the ability to search within channel updates for iPhone users, after a period of similar functionality availability on Android.

This indicates the company's interest in making in-app search more flexible, at a time when the amount of content users manage through WhatsApp is increasing, from text messages to photos, files, and links.
