A piece of candy may save you from fainting in the heat a cardiologist explains

Khaberni - With the rise in temperatures during the summer, cases of dizziness and low blood pressure increase, especially among the elderly or people with health issues. While many resort to drinking water only, Spanish cardiologist Ricardo Freile confirms that there is a simple method that might help deal with this condition quickly.

Freile explained, in statements transferred by the Spanish "Huff Post," that the feeling of dizziness or fainting during heat is often the result of low blood pressure due to the dilation of blood vessels and the loss of fluids and salts through sweating.

He added that consuming a piece of candy or a sugar tablet might be beneficial in some cases, especially if the dizziness is also linked to low blood sugar levels or if the person has not eaten for hours. The sugar provides quick energy that might help improve the condition temporarily.

However, the cardiologist stressed that candy is not a treatment for low blood pressure itself but an emergency measure in certain conditions, emphasizing that the most important measure involves moving the affected individual to a cool place, slightly elevating their legs, and drinking water or salt-containing fluids if they can do so.

Freile also noted that continuing dizziness, recurring fainting episodes, or symptoms such as chest pain or shortness of breath require immediate medical care, as these signs could indicate a more serious health problem.

He concluded by affirming that prevention remains the best solution, through consuming plenty of fluids, avoiding direct sun exposure during peak hours, wearing light clothing, and ensuring to replenish the salts and fluids lost by the body in hot conditions.
