Iraq applies the terrorism law to anyone who manufactures or uses drones

Khaberni - In a new step within the path of controlling unregulated weapons in the country and limiting them to the state, the Supreme Judicial Council in Iraq directed the specialized courts to apply the provisions of the counter-terrorism law on manufacturers, users, and possessors of drones.

The Council stated in a statement today, Wednesday, that it "directed the specialized courts to apply the provisions of the counter-terrorism law No. (13) of 2005 to anyone who manufactures, uses, or owns drones that are used for illegal purposes," according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
Recently, the Iraqi government has made several security changes affecting prominent positions in the country, including the head of the National Security Agency, in addition to the National Security Advisor, and others.
Control of Arms

The government, led by Ali Al-Zaidi, also emphasized its progress in its plans to control the arms of factions within the state and to fight corruption.

Additionally, the spokesman for the Iraqi Armed Forces’ Commander-in-Chief, Sabah Al-Noaman, confirmed the implementation of a comprehensive structural plan aimed at extending the state's constitutional authority. He pointed out that the plan "aims to withdraw all military units from city centers and urban areas before the end of the current year, with the internal security portfolio being completely assigned to the Ministry of Interior and its specialized agencies, allowing the army units to fully focus on border protection tasks, enhancing defense capabilities, and increasing military readiness."
Iraqi armed factions have launched at least seven drone attacks from desert locations near the southern cities of Basra and Samawah on targets in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE between April 20 and May 17, during the war that erupted between Iran on one side and America and Israel on the other, as reported by Reuters. Iraq has a significant number of armed factions, many of which have close ties with Tehran. These factions form a fundamental pillar within the so-called "Axis of Resistance" regional alliance aligned with Iran, which extends from Gaza and Lebanon to Yemen and Iraq.

It is noteworthy that some of these armed groups had claimed responsibility for dozens of drone and missile attacks targeting American interests in the country, leading to retaliatory lethal airstrikes since the US and Israel began their assault on Iran on February 28th last.
