Five Essential Tests for People Over 35

Khaberni - Indian Doctor Shelly Mahajan, a specialist in pathology and clinical genomics, recommends that individuals over the age of 35 undergo five routine tests.

These tests include blood sugar and cholesterol levels, thyroid, liver and kidney functions, and levels of vitamin D3 and vitamin B12.

According to her, after the age of 35, the body starts facing the effects of stress, lack of sleep, limited movement, and following an unbalanced diet with less effectiveness. This may not be visibly obvious, but during this period, some disorders begin to emerge, which can be detected and treated early.

The doctor lists the blood sugar level test at the top of the list, as it helps in early detection of prediabetes or carbohydrate metabolism disorders.

She says: "The second important component is assessing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It includes measuring blood pressure and checking cholesterol levels, as the risk of heart attack and stroke gradually increases after the age of 35. It is also important to perform tests to assess the health of the liver and kidneys. Their problems may remain undetected for a long time, therefore it is crucial to detect them before symptoms appear."

The doctor recommends testing thyroid functions because this organ is "the main regulator of metabolism," noting that thyroid problems often disguise themselves as fatigue, stress, or low energy, although they negatively impact health over time.

In addition, Mahajan recommends testing levels of vitamin D3 and vitamin B12 as a fifth essential step. Of course, a deficiency in these vitamins does not always lead to serious diseases, but it can exacerbate the general feeling of illness, increase weakness, reduce productivity and quality of life.
