Shortly after takeoff American bomber crashes in California

Khaberni - An American B-52 bomber crashed in California on Monday, with no immediate information on whether there were any injuries.

Edwards Air Force Base posted on Facebook: "A B-52 Stratofortress aircraft of the US Air Force crashed shortly after taking off from Edwards Airport at exactly 11:20 AM."

It added that "emergency teams immediately arrived at the site of the accident, and the situation is still under investigation."

No immediate information was available on whether there were any injuries.

The US military has not immediately released any information about potential losses, considering that a B-52 bomber typically carries a crew of five members.

According to media reports, photos and video clips documented a large cloud of smoke in the California sky.

The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress bomber is a long-range bomber used in a variety of military missions.

Thanks to its capability to reach subsonic speeds and altitudes up to 50,000 feet, this bomber has been the backbone of American bomber operations for decades.

Edwards Air Force Base is located in the desert about 100 miles north of Los Angeles.

The sprawling base, which covers an area of 480 square miles in Kern County, is used for research, development, and testing of US Air Force aircraft, weapon systems, software, and components.

The base is known as the place where Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier in 1947.
