Khaberni - Lebanese President Joseph Aoun welcomed, on Monday, the understanding reached between Iran and the United States, expressing his hope that it would be a positive step towards reducing tensions and paving the way for diplomatic solutions that contribute to enhancing security and stability at both regional and international levels, during a call he received from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to the Lebanese presidency.
The presidency stated in a release, "President Aoun welcomed the understanding reached" between Tehran and Washington, expressing his hope that it "would be a positive step towards reducing tensions and paving the way for diplomatic solutions that contribute to enhancing security and stability at regional and international levels."
According to the statement, Aoun emphasized that "the stability, security, and sovereignty of Lebanon remain a national priority, while Araghchi affirmed the importance of respecting Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity by all parties, expressing his anticipation that the positive atmosphere created by this understanding would support stability in Lebanon and enhance opportunities for recovery and prosperity in the country."
Iranian media reported that one of the agreement's clauses stipulates the release of $12 billion of frozen Iranian funds following the signing of the document, which overall includes "the release of $24 billion" of these funds during the 60-day negotiation period for a final agreement.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced, on Monday night, the achievement of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran following intense negotiations.
Sharif stated on his "X" account that both sides announced the immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.
He mentioned that the official signing ceremony will take place on Friday, June 19, in Switzerland.
He explained that with the implementation of the agreement, mediators would facilitate a series of meetings during this week.
US President, Donald Trump, confirmed on Monday night, the conclusion of an agreement between the United States and Iran.
Trump said in a post on his "Truth Social" platform: "The agreement with Iran has been concluded... Congratulations to everyone."
He added that, pursuant to the agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be open for navigation without fees, in addition to lifting the naval blockade.
He continued: "Sailors and ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow!"
