Khaberni - The Minister of Health in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Samuel Roger Kampa, said last Friday that authorities identified 1028 suspected cases of Ebola virus, up from 906 cases the previous day.
The outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus continues in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with cases also reported in Uganda.
The World Health Organization said in early May that the outbreak of the Ebola virus in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo likely began two months prior. The World Health Organization announced that the outbreak of the rare Bundibugyo strain, for which there is no vaccine available, represents a public health emergency of international concern.
This has raised concerns among experts because of the length of time the virus went undetected while it was spreading in a densely populated area, making it difficult to trace and isolate contacts of infected individuals.
The World Health Organization mentioned that testing capabilities are improving, and it hopes that most of the accumulated samples from suspected cases will be processed in the next few days.
