Egypt Detention of a suspect in sexual assaults after shocking stories on social media

Khaberni  - The Public Prosecution in Egypt, on Wednesday, ordered the detention of a suspect in cases involving the sexual assault of several girls, after shocking stories of survivors spread on social media platforms in the recent period.

The prosecution announced the detention of the accused pending investigation after interrogating him and hearing the statements of the victims and witnesses, as well as the preliminary investigations that resulted in the evidence, confirming that the accused admitted to committing some of the incidents.

The case exploded after several social media users shared testimonies from multiple girls indicating that they were victims of sexual assault by the founder of an unlicensed NGO in the Garden City area, known as "Beit Fatmah."

The Public Prosecution emphasized the prohibition of publishing any data revealing the identity of the victims or witnesses to protect their privacy, affirming that legal proceedings will be taken against anyone who violates the law.

The prosecution mentioned that the investigation into the incident came after the "Office for the Protection of Children, Persons with Disabilities, and the Elderly" within the Public Prosecution observed allegations against a person involving the sexual assault of 4 girls.

The prosecution heard the statements of the complainants and the victims, with three of them testifying they had been subjected to sexual assaults in various locations, including an unlicensed headquarters of an NGO in the Garden City area of Cairo, during the period from 2022 to 2025, while a fourth girl testified to a similar incident occurred in 2017.

According to the prosecution, the statements of the victims revealed that they had approached the accused seeking support and recovery from difficult social and psychological circumstances, but he exploited their conditions to commit these crimes.

The prosecution also listened to one of the employees at the scene, who confirmed that the accused intentionally dismissed him from work early or assigned him to come late to facilitate the commission of the incidents.

The prosecution clarified that the accused admitted to committing some of the incidents during his interrogation, while the prosecution examined his phone and his electronic devices, and ordered the inclusion of police investigations and the human trafficking unit, affirming the continuation of the investigations.

The Public Prosecution affirmed that the investigations are conducted within the necessary framework of secrecy, ensuring the protection of the privacy of the victims and the witnesses, in accordance with Article 113 bis of the Criminal Procedure Law.
