Khaberni - 3 Yemenis were killed and another was injured on Wednesday in armed clashes that erupted between two families following a dispute over the ownership of a fresh water well, in one of the towns of Dhale province in northern Yemen.
Local sources reported that a conflict arose between two families over each one's right to draw large amounts of drinking water from a well located in an area between their residences, in the town of Al-Gharas in the Dimt district, northern Dhale province.
The sources stated that the disputes later evolved into claims by each family that the well lay within the land they owned, leading to an escalation of the dispute into armed clashes.
They pointed out that the armed confrontations resulted in the death of two brothers from the first family, while a person from the other side was killed and his relative was seriously injured, subsequently being transferred to the intensive care unit in one of the district hospitals.
Yemen is among the countries with the most severe scarcity of water resources in the world; the annual per capita water share is 80 cubic meters, which is much less than the global water poverty line of 1,000 cubic meters per person, amid a collapse of the country's water infrastructure due to ongoing conflict for more than a decade.
