Khaberni - Amid ongoing political tensions between the United States and Iran, a crucial question arises before the kick-off of the 2026 World Cup: Will the Iranian team actually participate in the tournament?
So far, there is no definitive official answer. While statements from within Iran suggest a potential absence for political reasons, no official withdrawal announcement has been made through accredited channels, leaving the door open to all scenarios.
Italian journalist Walter Giano revealed significant developments, confirming through the "X" platform that the odds of the Italian team participating in the World Cup had seen a sudden increase in the betting markets, indicating a possible change in the scene.
He also referred to the appearance of the Italian flag in the city of Seattle among the symbols of the participating teams, although the city hosts matches from a group that includes Iran alongside Egypt and Belgium, which has increased doubts, even if considered a coincidence.
In a more sensitive development, the "Financial Times" reported that Paolo Zampolli, a special envoy for U.S. President Donald Trump, sent a message to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, urging him to exclude the Iranian team from the tournament.
This request was based on allegations related to human rights violations and military support in international conflicts, with an explicit call for a "decisive" stance from FIFA.
