Khaberni - Mazen Al-Qadi, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, affirmed on Tuesday that the council has achieved significant momentum in legislative and regulatory performance, praising the efforts of the representatives and their commitment to teamwork, placing the nation's interest above all else, in line with the royal directives and enhancing integration with the government within constitutional frameworks.

Al-Qadi said in a press briefing on the achievements of the council in its second regular session that the council held 42 sessions, including 31 legislative and 11 regulatory ones, during which it approved 19 laws out of 23 bill drafts submitted by the government, at an achievement rate of approximately 83%, while 4 laws are still under consideration.

The council also discussed the Audit Bureau's report for the year 2024, in the context of enhancing public funds oversight and consolidating principles of transparency and accountability.

In the supervisory aspect, he explained that the representatives submitted 770 regulatory questions, the government responded to 577 of them, at a rate of 75%, while 193 questions remained unanswered, noting that 41 questions were discussed under the dome, reflecting a practical and methodological presence of the supervisory role.

He added that the session witnessed the submission of 8 interrogations, the government responded to two of them, against 6 without a response, alongside 62 proposals by desire and 8 proposals by law referred to the relevant committees. Moreover, there were 74 parliamentary memos, 52 of which were responded to, while 22 did not receive a response.

Al-Qadi mentioned the activation of the "new business" item, allowing the members to raise urgent issues, directing about 243 direct questions and interventions to the government, which are dealt with during the sessions or through subsequent official answers.

In terms of parliamentary diplomacy, he highlighted that the council conducted 65 activities including formal meetings and visits with state presidents, parliaments, delegations, and ambassadors, contributing to enhancing Jordan's regional and international standing.

On the political front, he said that the presidency of the council issued 20 statements and declarations reflecting Jordan's firm positions, affirming the prominence of the Palestinian issue on the council’s agenda, and emphasizing the Hashemite custodianship in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

He indicated that the parliamentary committees held 353 meetings, forming "the real kitchen" for parliamentary work, while the permanent office held 10 meetings, and the executive office held 7 meetings, which enhances institutional discipline and position coordination.

Al-Qadi appreciated the role of the Jordanian Women Parliamentarians Forum in empowering women and enhancing their legislative and supervisory presence, through programs and partnerships that contribute to broadening their participation in public life.

He confirmed that the council, despite its achievements, is aware of the upcoming challenges and the need to double efforts to meet the aspirations of the citizens, calling for parliamentary groups to develop their work towards programmatic blocs capable of making a qualitative leap in parliamentary performance.

Al-Qadi expressed his appreciation for the permanent office and the general secretariat of the council, praising the role of the media as a partner in oversight, enhancing transparency, and conveying the truth.
