World Cup Free for New York City Residents

Khaberni - New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced last night that the state has provided $20 million in government funding to help support World Cup activities throughout New York City.

A joint announcement in collaboration with the state and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and the World Cup Hosting Committee in New York and New Jersey stated that official free events for fans will be organized in both states covering all five boroughs of New York City.

According to a statement issued by the Governor last night, the goal is to ensure that more New Yorkers can enjoy watching World Cup matches and associated events at no cost, adding, "New Yorkers are ready to welcome the fans coming from all around the world to attend the World Cup 2026, and we are keen to ensure that everyone who considers this city their home is an integral part of this historic event."

Hochul explained, "These free public events, to be held in all five boroughs of the city, will convey the excitement of the game and its thrill to every citizen in New York, and in every local community; contributing to supporting our small businesses and enhancing the bonds among New Yorkers."

For his part, Mayor Mamdani said, "The World Cup belongs to the people of New York, and by making fan events free across all boroughs of the city, we ensure that everyone can join us in this joy."
