Khaberni - Kuwaiti artist Abdullah Bu Shehri returns to the field of television directing after a two-year absence, through a new artistic work named "Majnun Layla".
His return follows his first directing experience in the short drama series "Past Act", which was shown in August 2024, and was a starting point for exploring this artistic path away from his work as an actor.
Bu Shehri explained in media statements that the main motivation for his return lies in the strength of the dramatic script, which he described as having "provoked" his creative imagination, as it pushed him to visualize the scenes visually and theatrically from the first reading, he said.
He noted that the new work belongs to the romantic drama genre, but he strives to present a different treatment that goes beyond traditional patterns, as it revolves around a central question about how love turns into deadly madness, a proposal that reflects a tendency towards diving into the complexities of the human psyche, rather than just sticking to direct emotional narration.
Bu Shehri added that the new drama project he is directing is still in the preparation stage, with the announcement of the cast expected in the upcoming period.
It is worth noting that the series "Past Act" was written by Kuwaiti writer Alia Al-Kazemi and starred several stars, including Shujoun Al-Hajri, Ali Kakooli, Zeina Maki, Issa Dhiab, Farah Al Mahdi, and Fatma Al Safi, which gave the experience a notable presence in terms of collective performance.
Bu Shehri's return to directing clearly reflects a direction toward diversifying his artistic tools, not settling for acting, in his pursuit to present romantic drama with a different intellectual and aesthetic dimension, by moving from in front of the camera to behind it, allowing for more personal and liberated directorial visions beyond conventional formats.
