Butchers Expect Rise in Sacrificial Animal Prices in Jordan

Khaberni  - Workers in the meat sector anticipate a noticeable increase in the prices of sacrificial animals this year, amounting to 50 dinar per sacrifice across various types.

They confirmed that the price of the local sheep currently reaches 300 dinar and is expected to rise to approximately 350 dinar, compared to last year when it was sold for 250 dinar, expecting it to rise further if the demand for sacrificial animals is high, according to opinion.

Ayed Al-Sarisi, a butcher shop owner, stated that the local sheep weighing 50 kg currently costs around 300 dinar, with an actual meat yield of about 25 kg, and its price might exceed 350 dinar if the demand increases as the season approaches.

Al-Sarisi mentioned that the price of the Romanian sheep of the same weight currently reaches 250 dinar, and it might exceed 300 dinar as the season approaches, adding that there is a third type of sacrificial animal, the Australian sheep, which is cheaper than the Romanian by about 20 to 25 dinar, although its slaughter is subject to specific restrictions, as it is only allowed in approved slaughterhouses that have obtained approvals from the Ministry of Agriculture.

In turn, butcher shop owner, Firas Al-Ajouri, indicated that the reason for the price increase is due to traders raising the prices of sheep, where the price of the local sheep currently ranges between 270 and 350 dinar, while the price of the Romanian sheep has reached between 260 and 270 dinar, noting that this increase imposes an additional burden on citizens amidst rising demand for sacrificial animals during the Eid season.
