The First Referee to Officiate a Match from a Wheelchair

Khaberni  - In a scene embodying the highest meanings of will and challenging rigid rules, "Mavi" street in Milan witnessed a historical moment whose echo surpassed the boundaries of the field; where young Michele Crutchi (15 years old) launched his career as the first referee to officiate an official match from a wheelchair, turning a childhood dream into a tangible reality under the eyes of hundreds.

Michele's officiating of the match between "Vitoria Junior" and "For Evangelisti" (under 9 years) was not just a coincidence, but was the culmination of a journey that started from elementary school, when he was refereeing his classmates' games with his voice alone.

With remarkable determination, Michele successfully completed an intensive training course and obtained a refereeing license from the International Amateur Federation, proving that passion for sports law does not require standing on one's feet, but rather steadfastness in vision.

Massimo Akeni, head of the Italian Sports Center in Milan, stated that the federation intentionally surpassed traditional regulations for Michele, saying: "We must have the courage to prioritize humanity above any organizational aspect. We changed the rules to give Michele his opportunity, just as we previously did with Francesco Missori, which later led to the birth of the Italian team for the disabled."

"This is the second time that we have surpassed the rules of CSI. The first time was with Francesco Missori. He was 14 years old when he came to me. One of his legs had been amputated, and he dreamed of playing football using crutches, but the rules did not allow this."

A Strong Message

After the match ended with "Evangelisti" team's victory by four goals, Michele expressed his immense happiness, saying: "Finally, I tested my capabilities in an official match. I prepared well and did my best to entertain the children and manage the match fairly."

Michele's parents expressed indescribable pride in their son's effort, confirming that what happened was not just the fulfillment of a personal dream, but a strong message to society: "If just one person, after hearing Michele's story, decides to challenge their circumstances, we would have surpassed bigger barriers than just physical obstacles."

In his turn, Marco Viki, president of Vitoria Junior club, praised the partnership that made this day possible.

"For us at Vitoria Junior club, seeing Michele on the field for an official match is simply exceptional. We met Michele and his father a few months ago, and together with the AC Milan foundation, we sought how to achieve this dream. We could never have imagined such a beautiful Sunday! And for a sports club like ours, hospitality and inclusivity are values that we must not, and above all do not want to, renounce."

Michele's first appearance ended with a smile from someone who realizes that he has just begun a journey. Regardless of the match's outcome, the image of a fifteen-year-old boy who proved that dreams should not be waited for, but should be believed in, pursued earnestly, and achieved, remains.
