After the Keffiyeh and the Press Emblem American Basketball Star Highlights the Plight of Palestinian Children

Kyrie Irving, the American basketball star and player for the Dallas Mavericks, renewed his supportive stance for the Palestinian cause with a new action.

Kyrie Irving changed his profile picture on his official Instagram account, followed by more than 20 million people, to another that confirms his close following of the ongoing Israeli violations and crimes against Palestinians in both Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

Kyrie Irving (34 years old) set a picture showing a Palestinian child who was prevented by the Israeli occupation army from going to his school in the West Bank.

Kyrie Irving Highlights the Plight of Palestinian Children

In the picture, a Palestinian child is seen sitting while holding a book, as he looks back at Israeli soldiers standing behind a barbed-wire fence.

Recently, the residents of Umm al-Khair village, located in Masafer Yatta south of Hebron, were surprised by the closure of the main road leading to one of the schools in a new Israeli escalation targeting the educational process and entrenching geographic division.

Settlers erected a barbed-wire fence blocking the students' path to the school, which is only about one kilometer away from their residences, and although the barrier was set up without legal permission, the army refused to remove it, disrupting students’ access to it for about 50 days.

When children - some as young as five years old - tried to bypass the fence, the soldiers fired tear gas and sound grenades at them.

Previous Stances

This was not the first time Irving expressed solidarity with Palestinians. In February 2023, he attended the NBA All-Star game wearing a jersey that had the word PRESS, honoring journalists covering the Israeli war on Gaza.

He also appeared in a TV interview before one of the games in November 2024, wearing a necklace that carried the Palestinian flag shaped as a map of the land.

A year before that, he caught attention when he attended a press conference after one of the matches wearing a Keffiyeh, symbolizing Palestinian identity.
