Egypt Accidental Discovery of a Huge Statue in Sharqia

Khaberni - A massive statue was discovered in the "Tel Pharaoh" area in Sharqia Governorate, Egypt, last Tuesday, during excavation works on a plot of land in preparation for the construction of a youth and sports center.

The excavators handed the statue over to the San El-Hagar archaeological area in Sharqia Governorate, under the supervision of the antiquities officials, while preparations are underway to transport it from the site and examine it to discover information about it.

Some locals in the "Ezbet Al-Tel" area said that the statue was found during excavation works carried out by the Directorate of Youth and Sports, and that the statue is made of granite and weighs about 5 and a half tons.

Archaeologists are expected to study the statue to determine the era it belongs to and the figure it represents.

These events highlight the treasures still buried in various regions of Egypt, which are sometimes found by chance during excavation works for construction.

A source said in press statements to Egyptian media outlets that the statue was found in areas undergoing excavation and on land owned by the Ministry of Antiquities, and that the preliminary specs of the statue indicate it is a dual statue, representing two persons, made of granite and weighing up to about 5 tons.

The source confirmed that the statue would be studied to determine the figures it represents and the era it dates back to, and it is likely that the Ministry of Antiquities will announce the details of the archaeological discovery as soon as the details are studied.
