Khaberni - Daylight saving time in Egypt starts on April 24, 2026. The clock is moved forward 60 minutes at the end of Thursday and the beginning of dawn on Friday, specifically at midnight, to become 01:00 AM. Thus, Friday will be the first official day of the new system’s implementation in the country.
The implementation of daylight saving time is part of a plan to rationalize energy consumption, where the state relies on moving the clock forward to benefit from daylight hours and reduce the load on electricity consumption in the evening, thereby affecting the adjustment of daily schedules across various sectors.
Egypt recently reinstated this system after a hiatus of several years, aimed at reducing the pressure on electricity networks and benefiting from the long daylight hours in summer, which positively reflects on overall consumption. Daylight saving time was resumed in Egypt in April 2023 after an interruption of about 7 years (since 2016).
Daylight saving time directly affects various sectors, from transportation and government affairs to schools and universities. Therefore, experts advise citizens to follow the changes and adjust their clocks at the specified time to avoid any confusion in schedules, especially in the early days of implementation.
The daylight saving time will continue until the last Friday of October 2026, when the country reverts to standard (winter) time.
