Khaberni - Abdullah Marqah
Zaal Al-Kuwalit, the head of the Livestock Breeders Association, stated that predicting the prices of sacrificial animals, both Romanian and local sheep, remains difficult amidst the constant changes in the market and the import operations, including the recent permission to import Syrian sheep.
Al-Kuwalit explained that the prices of sacrificial animals vary depending on the type and weight, estimating that the price per kilogram for both Romanian and local sheep could reach about 5.5 dinars, due to the similar prices of the two types. He added that the price of a sacrificial animal weighing 50 kilograms might reach about 275 dinars, stressing that this price is an estimate and subject to change.
He pointed out that several factors affect the prices, the most notable being the quantities of imported sheep and the allowance for the import of Syrian sheep, in addition to the purchasing power of the citizens.
He also mentioned that the price of Syrian sheep will be close Khaberni to the price of Jordanian sheep, due to the increase in prices in the country of origin.
Al-Kuwalit indicated that the self-sufficiency ratio in Jordan from livestock ranges between 40% and 42% according to official data, necessitating imports to address the shortage, noting that Jordan annually imports Khaberni about one and a quarter million heads of Romanian sheep, in addition to exporting quantities of live livestock, calves, chilled and fresh meats.
