Khaberni - Former minister and constitutional jurist Dr. Noufan Al-Ajarma confirmed that the new proposed name for the Islamic Action Front party, which is "Party of the Nation", is a clear violation of the provisions of paragraph (a) of Article (7) of the Political Parties Law No. (7) of the year 2022.
Al-Ajarma explained that paragraph (a) of Article (7) stipulates that the party's constitution must include the party's name and emblem, provided that neither of them matches the name or emblem of any other Jordanian party, nor should it have a regional or familial significance, or match the name of any non-Jordanian party or its emblem, or carry connotations contrary to public order.
He noted that the name "Party of the Nation" came in a general and absolute term, devoid of any distinctive element that gives it legal specificity, which deprives it of the condition of distinctiveness required in the names of political parties, making it prone to confusion and lack of distinction.
He stated that the same name "Party of the Nation" has been used by several political parties in Arab and non-Arab countries, which constitutes a case of matching with names of non-Jordanian parties, directly violating the text of the law and its mandatory provisions.
Consequently, Al-Ajarma confirmed that adopting this name does not align with the provisions of the law, contradicts the legal naming requirements of political parties, and achieves the legislative purpose of ensuring distinction, clarity, and preventing confusion in party life.
