Khaberni - The head of the Union and Reform parliamentary bloc, Deputy Captain Zuhair Mohammad Al-Khashman, calls on the government to declare the match days of the Jordanian national team in the group stage of the World Cup 2026 as official holidays, in a way that aligns with the magnitude of this major national event and gives Jordanians the full opportunity to support their team in its historic first participation at this global level.
Al-Khashman stated in an official memo directed to His Excellency Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan, that this request stems from a genuine national responsibility and a deep understanding of the joy experienced by Jordanians as they anticipate their national team's appearance in the World Cup finals, after a long wait for this achievement that signified a moment of pride and honor for every Jordanian home.
Al-Khashman emphasized that the national team’s match times in the group stage occur in the early hours of dawn and morning according to Jordan time, which makes it difficult for a broad segment of citizens, including employees, students, and workers, to watch these historic matches and then attend to their jobs and daily duties normally, justifying the need for an exceptional national decision that matches the exceptional nature of the event itself.
He pointed out that the national team will play against Austria on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 7:00 AM, against Algeria on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 6:00 AM, and against Argentina on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 5:00 AM— very early times that call for a supportive government stance that reflects the pulse of the Jordanian street and their attachment to this historic participation.
Al-Khashman stressed that the participation of Al-Nashama in the World Cup is not just a sporting entitlement, but a unifying national event that encapsulates years of dreams, hard work, and perseverance, and deserves full national attention, not just as a football match, but as a representation of the image of Jordan, the will of its youth, and the nation’s ability to create joy and achievement.
He added that declaring match days as official holidays is not merely an administrative action, but a profound national and moral message that confirms the state’s support for its people and its team during a crucial historic moment, giving Jordanians the chance to express their support and pride in the national flag as it is raised in the largest football gathering in the world.
Al-Khashman concluded by affirming that this request aligns with the national team’s status in the hearts of the Jordanians, and with the right of the Jordanian fans to live this extraordinary moment with all the attention and appreciation it deserves, urging the government to respond to this national demand that unites the Jordanian street behind the national team.
