On Science Day, bless our flag, O Lord
In the memory of the Jordanians and for decades villages, valleys, and in every precious patch of this authentic sanctuary before the declaration of Jordanian Science Day on the 16th of April, reflecting many aspects of genuine patriotism, natural belonging to the symbols and constants of the nation, and a testament to true citizenship born from the love of a follower who never waited for a day to assert belonging and loyalty.
There was never a wedding, graduation, or folk dance missing the Jordanian flag, nor did our squares ever empty of a rope carrying flags to decorate the place, and no joyous parade passed without the flags waving as a symbol of pride.
What always assists my memory years ago, is a giant flag over three meters long that the women of my village passed around at every occasion to raise on the rooftops proclaiming presence and blessing, for our joys are the joys of the nation in which we weave our future.
Thus, the concept of the flag or banner is not merely an appearance, nor colors and symbols selected hastily, but it is the essence of a past and a history unique to each nation to ensure its distinction from other peoples and nationalities in the journey of building the independent state, a journey written in the blood of those who carried these flags, and indeed sacrificed their lives to keep them flying through generations.
And on Jordanian Science Day today, like many other countries that have created a national day to take pride in their flag, we Jordanians raise our flag in a national celebration that decorates every part of the nation, waving high to narrate a nation's tale by its colors, symbols, and meanings, and to affirm its value that has shaped its meaning, condensing politics with culture and history in the form of a flag, and recites to the present a song chanted by its loyal children because it is not summoned for it is its day, rather it is the first lesson of citizenship for every occasion, morning, home, street, military uniform, national team player, and embassy door around the world.
Our flag today is an extension of the saga of Arab revolt against injustice and tyranny, formed and built from the flag of the Great Arab Revolt, to be what it is today by its design, colors, and message to deepen our continuous relationship with the memory that built our present, so we continue to remember the meanings of sacrifice and martyrdom written by the ancestors, the memory of a nation and the biography of heroes immortalized by the fragrant biography and to be with all pride and sanctity the shroud that wraps
Their bodies, martyrs, by what it represents of meanings eternal in the hearts of those who carried it in the fields of honor and heroism.
Those meanings that make us keen to keep it high, not touching the ground and only raised in the correct way, as it is a trust as the trust of the nation we cherish and pride ourselves on, a symbol of our honor, identity, and authenticity.
April, the flag, and the season of flowers and spring, we the adults return pulsing and yearning to our first steps in our schools as students standing in respect and pride, offering the morning salute, and voices bellowing with eyes filled with dreams of the future proudly and majestically, to make our message that we raise our children on carrying the flag and the nation as a precious heritage
On our flag day, we reaffirm that it is the only national banner around which we gather, embracing the nation as our Arab army circles in fields of dignity and battle, for we are all the people of this banner that we strive for in belonging and patriotism.
There is no like Jordan as a nation, leadership, army, and people who deserve pride, in it the most beautiful and most valuable flag we raise declaring our Jordanian identity and loyalty every Jordanian day.
