We were raised on this flag and with its dignity we grow
الكاتب: د. اسراء بن طريف

Not every flag raised is like this one, and not every country talked about is like Jordan.
Here, the story does not start from boundaries on a map but from a meaning that resides in the heart, manifests in the stance, and proves itself over time.
On Jordanian Flag Day, we do not celebrate a piece of cloth waving in the sky, but we stand before a symbol that carries the history of a nation, the dignity of its people, and an unbreakable covenant.
It is a day where we redefine belonging not with words but with what we hold inside us of an unchanging steadfastness.
This flag, derived from the banner of the Great Arab Revolt, was not designed to be just a shape seen but a meaning lived.
The black in it extends from the Abbasid state, the white echoes the Umayyad state and the green roots trace back to the Fatimid state, while the red is the spirit of the revolt, and the banner of blood that was never anything but a price for freedom.
And at its heart, the seven-pointed star stands as a symbol for the unity of the Jordanians, commonly interpreted as referring to the Seven Repeated Verses (Surat Al-Fatiha) of the Holy Quran, and also interpreted as representing the principles of the Great Arab Revolt, with its enduring values.
But the truth that needs no explanation is that this flag does not derive its grandeur from these symbols alone but from its people and from a nation that learned to remain steadfast even when circumstances swayed.
Here, belonging isn't just claimed, but seen in demeanor, in words, in silence at times.
Here, dignity is understood without being spoken, and the homeland is carried in the heart, not on the tongue.
Jordan is not just a place…
It is a state of dignity, resembling those who bear it, firm, clear, unchanging, and unbreakable.
It is that feeling that makes you stand more upright and raise your head without being asked to.
And on Flag Day, it is not just about raising the flag,
but about being worthy of it, keeping its meaning in our details,
and reflecting its values in our stances and remaining loyal to it, as it has always stood high with us.
And we were raised on this flag, grew up in honor, and learned that what is raised with dignity… never falls.
And this flag, is not just above us… it is within us..
Long live Jordan, free and honored, towering with its people, steady with its banner.
