Khaberni - The National Electric Power Company signed with the Jordanian-Egyptian Fajr Company for the transfer and supply of natural gas, today, Wednesday, an agreement to establish a natural gas supply point for the seventh private generation project (IPP7), with a capacity of about 700 megawatts.
The project aims to enhance the readiness of the infrastructure for generation projects, and to increase the efficiency of the electrical power system in the Kingdom.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Sofian Al-Batayneh, the General Manager of the National Electric Power Company, and Mr. Yasser Salah El Din, the CEO of Jordanian-Egyptian Fajr Company, where the agreement represents a fundamental stage to secure the project's natural gas supply according to the highest standards of dependability and operational readiness.
The execution of the works under the agreement is expected to be completed by mid-2027, coinciding with the readiness of the power generation station for the operational testing phase, which will contribute to improving the efficiency of operation and achieving optimal utilization of energy resources.
Al-Batayneh had clarified in a previous press statement that the combined cycle power generation plant project (IPP7), which was recently approved by the Council of Ministers, is one of the most prominent strategic projects to enhance the electrical power system in the Kingdom, noting that the project’s capacity is about 700 megawatts.
He added that the generation project is expected to enter commercial operation during the years 2027 and 2028, to contribute to meeting approximately 10 percent of the demand for electrical energy in the Kingdom, which enhances the security of supply and increases the efficiency and reliability of the electrical system, supporting a move towards a more sustainable energy mix.
