Just Two Minutes A Simple Secret to Improving Brain Health

Khaberni - Neurology experts indicate that the modern lifestyle now immerses humans in a huge amount of visual and auditory stimuli throughout the day, starting from breaking news and continuous notifications, to advertisements and the content of social media platforms; this has made constant interaction with screens a fundamental part of everyday life.

In this context, neurosurgeon Prashant Katakol explains that the human brain was not designed for constant exposure to this amount of stimulation, pointing out that the continuous reliance on phones, music, and podcasts while working and even before sleeping, deprives the brain of the natural rest periods it needs.

He adds that this continuous flow of information and noise leads to elevated stress hormone levels; which causes gradual fatigue in the neural circuits, and prevents the front dorsal cortex in the brain from efficiently performing its role in focusing, decision-making, and clear thinking.

Katakol confirms, according to the site "Health Shots", that the absence of moments of complete silence in daily life has become a common reality, although the brain needs, just like any other organ, periods of rest to regain its balance.

On the other hand, he points out that allocating a short time for silence can positively reflect on brain functions, as just two minutes of calmness without any external stimuli allows the brain to transition to a different state of activity, known as the "default mode network" activity, which is responsible for self-reflection, emotional processing, and enhancing creativity.

He asserts that these quiet moments are not a waste of time, but rather a direct investment in brain health, as they allow it to regain its mental clarity and organize its thoughts more effectively.

According to him, persisting with short periods of silence daily may contribute to reducing stress levels, improving clarity of thought, and enhancing a sense of inner peace, without the need for any external means or medicinal interventions.
