5 Natural Remedies That May Help Gradually Reduce Dark Spots

Khaberni - Dealing with dark spots can be frustrating for many, especially since they sometimes appear after acne fades, or as a result of excessive exposure to sunlight, or due to hormonal changes. This condition is medically known as hyperpigmentation, which occurs when the skin produces excess amounts of the melanin pigment.

Although some advanced cases of pigmentation may require the intervention of a dermatologist, there are some natural treatments that may help reduce the appearance of dark spots and gradually improve the skin's appearance.

According to the site "Times of India", here are five natural ways to lighten dark spots and gradually lighten pigmentation:

Aloe Vera for skin tone uniformity
Aloe vera contains active compounds such as "aloin" and "aloesin" that may help reduce melanin production, alongside its soothing properties for the skin. Pure aloe vera gel can be applied to dark spots at night and left until morning.

Milk and Yogurt for Gentle Exfoliation
Milk and yogurt contain lactic acid which helps to gently exfoliate the skin and remove dead cells. Yogurt can be applied directly on spots for 10 to 15 minutes or the skin can be wiped with milk using a cotton piece and then rinsed with lukewarm water.

Green Tea for Antioxidants
Green tea contains the compound EGCG which helps reduce inflammations associated with hyperpigmentation. A cooled green tea bag can be used to pat the dark areas twice a day.

Licorice for Lightening Pigmentation
Licorice extract is known for its ability to reduce melanin production, which aids in gradually lightening the spots. It is advisable to use a serum or toner containing licorice extract once daily.

Soy for Treating Acne Marks
Soy compounds help reduce the transfer of melanin pigment to the skin surface, making it effective in reducing spots caused by acne. Products containing soy or soy milk can be used as a skin wash.
