Khaberni - The shortage of memory and its rising prices continue to cause widespread chaos in various sectors, where giant technology companies monopolize the entire supply at high prices, while artificial intelligence data centers compete for the remaining supplies.
In the midst of this turmoil, new leaks suggest that some phone manufacturers may have to face the situation by temporarily stopping the production of the top-tier "Ultra" phones until conditions improve.
According to the leaks, published by accounts on the X platform and the Chinese social media site "Weibo," more than one smartphone manufacturer is considering the idea of suspending production of the highest-specification flagship phones, as per a report by the "PhoneArena" website, which was reviewed by "Al Arabiya Business."
Production of low and mid-tier models and "Pro" models will continue, but "Ultra" models will disappear from the markets until memory becomes less costly and affordable.
The leaks currently indicate that a limited number of Chinese phone companies are considering this option. However, companies that are well-known in the Western markets such as Apple, Samsung, and Google are unlikely to take a similar step.
Apple is expected to launch its first foldable phone later this year, which was recently said to be named "iPhone Ultra" instead of the previously circulated name "iPhone Fold."
However, Chinese brands often push the boundaries of innovation in their flagship models in terms of imaging or raw performance, which might be greatly missed if the production of this category ceases.
The leaks indicated that economical, mid-range, and higher category "Pro" phones are selling in large enough numbers to remain profitable.
Phones from these brands coming with ultra-powerful specifications under the "Ultra" banner, however, do not achieve high sales due to their high prices. Like the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, the aim of some of these phones is to demonstrate the technical prowess of the companies more than being products intended for massive sales.
In the current conditions related to significant price increases in memory components, continuing to manufacture "Ultra" category phones could lead to financial losses instead of generating profits.
The current memory crisis is causing great concern, as it is expected that some small companies will declare bankruptcy due to it. Meanwhile, companies like Apple are acquiring huge quantities of memory units at exorbitant prices, thereby excluding competitors from the market.
