The Public Security in the Jordanian Narrative 105 Years of an Unbreakable Covenant
الكاتب:  باسم عارف الشورة

﴿And when We made the House a place of return for the people and a place of safety﴾
Allah the Almighty truly spoke
In the memory of nations, years are measured by the impact they leave, not their count… and in the memory of Jordan, the Directorate of Public Security has gone on for 105 years, witnessing a journey that was never just an institution, but a security saga written by the will of the state, the loyalty of its men, and the trust of its people.
From the earliest beginnings, when the nation was slowly forming, the Public Security was present in every detail of the building, establishing order, founding state prestige, and giving people a deep sense of peace. The resources were not great, but the resolve was greater, and the message was clear: to keep Jordan safe, no matter how great the challenges.
As years went by, this agency did not stop at its foundations but continued on a path of development, keeping pace with the state as it grew, and advancing with it in its vision. Security in Jordan was not static, but a living entity that evolved, redefining itself, and responding to each stage with its tools, without abandoning its principles.
In a crucial moment of the modernization process, the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein, enhanced the security scene with a more comprehensive vision, by integrating the Gendarmerie and Civil Defense under the umbrella of the Directorate of Public Security. The decision was not just administrative, but expressed the philosophy of a state that believes in strength in unity, and that efficiency comes from integration, and that protecting people requires a unified system working in high harmony.
This transformation not only saved time and effort but also increased the state's readiness to face crises and solidified the concept of comprehensive security, where the hand of the law meets the hand of rescue, and prevention integrates with response, in a manner that reflects the maturity of the Jordanian experience in managing its security.
In parallel, the future's features are enhanced by the directives of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, who leads modernization initiatives and places digital transformation at the heart of institutional work. Security today is not limited to the field but extends to the digital space, where speed, accuracy, and service efficiency are standards that now define the next phase.
Between yesterday and today, the most important constant remains the public security officer... the one whose essence has not changed, despite everything around him changing. He is the same one who stands in the cold and heat, day and night, silently carrying his responsibility, and performing his duty with devotion, expecting nothing but to keep the homeland well.
105 years… not just a number to be celebrated, but a history to be invoked, a responsibility to be renewed, and a message to be passed on.
It is the story of an agency that was not content to just be a guardian, but was a partner in building the state, a support in its stability, and a mirror reflecting its civilized image.
And in the Jordanian narrative, Public Security will remain a fixed title that does not change…
The title of a state that knows security is not just a duty, but a covenant that is unbreakable.
