Who breaks the citizens back
الكاتب: زهير الفقيه

A while ago, while moving around Jordanian radio stations, I listened to an extremely important topic... I heard an entry from the head of the companies and real estate offices and was shocked by his speech - he stated that there are about 12 thousand apartments, some of which have been sold and others are offered for public auction for sale due to the owners' inability to pay the monthly installments, which are usually high... What is happening?
Of course, when you meet a friend or colleague and discuss housing and its location, you find them saying thank God, I now own an apartment in my name. On delving deeper into the conversation, you find that they bought the apartment through the bank with monthly install payments and often, you find such people haven't paid anything from its price, indeed, it is completely financed by the bank, and an apartment that costs 70 thousand in cash, through the bank has now become 150 thousand and they tell you, (better than paying rent and in the end, the apartment's in my name)... And they're surprised after a while that they can't keep up with the payments and eventually, the apartment reverts back to its real owner, which is the bank, and it announces it for sale because it doesn't need it but needs its price, and thus a person's money goes to waste as if they hadn't paid anything and many were deceived or those who dreamed of owning a lifelong apartment, they've wasted their lifetime chasing ownership illusions... What is the solution to these dilemmas? And what are the ways to stop these people’s money from being lost?
The solution lies with the state and the government... There are lands owned by the state and plentiful, and they can be utilized by building housing developments and residential apartments and selling them directly to the citizens without resorting to banks... And it’s upon the governments to find solutions to such problems as the citizen pays taxes and any imposed obligations, so why isn’t there cooperation and radical solutions and utilization of these lands and let’s make the money spent on the city of dreams intended to be built to achieve the dreams of the youth in owning an apartment and establishing themselves away from the exploitation of banks whose profits exceed twice the borrowed amounts....
We all hope that one of the successive governments would think of the citizen before thinking about taxes or raising prices... and we are all aware of what the government does from passing decisions all of which are in the government’s favor and not in the citizen's interest as this is the law of social security intended to be amended and the re-pricing of fuel monthly among other decisions that we have not seen benefiting the people....
Our hope in God is great and with this government, that it would reconsider its policies towards the people... And our slogan remains (We are all Jordan).
