Despite its abysmal failure Apple may launch a new generation of iPhone Air

Khaberni - New leaks suggest that Apple will go ahead with launching at least two generations of its ultra-thin iPhone Air, despite its low sales.

The known leaker "Fixed Focus Digital," in a post on the Chinese platform "Weibo", said that "Air 2 will continue the usual product update cycle; no matter how low the sales are, Apple will begrudgingly bear the situation and move forward with launching at least two generations," according to a report by the technology news site "MacRumors".

Sales of the slim iPhone Air have been suffering severely since its first launch in September last year.

A survey conducted by "KeyBank Capital Markets" for investors indicated an almost complete lack of demand for the phone, with supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo noting that suppliers are expected to cut their production capacity by more than 80% between the launch date and the first quarter of 2026.

"Luxshare," the phone's manufacturer, stopped producing it in October, while "Foxconn," another supplier, was expected to cease production by the end of December, making it conceivable that the phone has completely exited the production lines.

However, "The Information" reported that Apple is currently considering redesigning the iPhone Air to add a second rear camera, which would address one of the main complaints about the current generation.

One report suggests that the second camera could be a 48-megapixel "Fusion Ultra Wide" lens. Another report indicates that the second generation will include a reduction in weight, a vapor chamber cooling system, enhanced battery capacity, and other performance improvements.

Previously, the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone 15 Plus performed poorly in a similar manner to the iPhone Air, and only lasted for two generations each.

The launch of iPhone Air 2 is expected, as Apple has moved forward with its rollout plan, in the spring of 2027.
