Khaberni - The head of the Parliamentary Union and Reform Bloc, Representative Captain Zuhair Mohammed Al-Khashman, stated that the Israeli occupation police's attack on Christians in the city of Jerusalem during the Easter Saturday celebrations represents an unacceptable and condemnable crime, and a blatant violation of the freedom of worship, a serious provocation of the believers' feelings, and an overt infringement on the sanctity and religious and historical status of the holy city.
Al-Khashman pointed out that what happened in Jerusalem reaffirms that the occupation persists in its repressive and restrictive policies against the Palestinian people, Muslims, and Christians, in an attempt to impose a false reality by force, and to entrench illegitimate measures targeting people, place, identity, and history.
He clarified that targeting Christians while performing their religious rituals, and placing restrictions on them during one of the most important religious occasions, reveals the true face of this occupation that respects no international law, does not consider the sanctity of holy sites, and disregards the freedom of worship guaranteed by the divine laws and international conventions.
Al-Khashman said that Jerusalem will remain a symbol of historical, religious, and human rights, and that all attempts by the occupation to change the historical and legal status quo there are doomed to fail, as they conflict with immutable truths that cannot be erased or overridden. He also emphasized that what was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs today reflects the steadfast and clear Jordanian position in rejecting all illegitimate Israeli restrictive measures against Christians and Muslims in Jerusalem, and affirming that Israel has no sovereignty over Jerusalem.
The head of the bloc explained that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, continues to play its historical, political, and diplomatic role in defending Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites, and in protecting the historical and legal status quo there, stemming from the Hashemite custodianship representing the most truthful and steadfast line of defense for the identity of Jerusalem and the rights of its people.
Al-Khashman confirmed that the Union and Reform Parliamentary Bloc firmly rejects these attacks and violations, and calls on the international community, global churches, and rights and humanitarian bodies to assume their ethical and legal responsibilities, and to act immediately to stop these aggressive practices that violate international humanitarian law and directly assault the freedom of worship and legitimate religious rights.
Al-Khashman concluded by asserting that Jerusalem is not a legitimate battleground for the occupation's brutality, and that the Islamic and Christian holy sites there will remain a red line, and that Jordan will continue, as a people, leadership, and institutions, in the trench defending Jerusalem and the right of its people to worship, dignity, and free existence on their land.
