Khaberni - The American administration has revealed designs for a new triumphal arch, 250 feet tall, just outside the capital Washington, as the United States is preparing to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its founding this summer.
According to what was revealed by President Donald Trump's administration, the new classical monument will include a statue of "Lady Liberty" (Winged Statue of Freedom) atop its stone structure, bearing a golden inscription saying "One nation under God," drawn from the closing words of the Pledge of Allegiance.
Golden lions will be placed at its entrance facing east, along with two huge golden eagles on either side of the Statue of Lady Liberty.
The arch resembles the historical Triumphal Arch in France, which stands 164 feet tall, and will be set up on the opposite bank of the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial, which is about 100 feet tall.
The site is located in the Memorial Circle in Arlington, Virginia, near the National Cemetery for Veterans. The Custis Mansion, known as Arlington House, also sits on the hill west of the circle.
Some veterans have filed lawsuits to stop the construction of the project, arguing that the arch — which President Trump boasted would be "the largest ever" — might obstruct the view of the graves of "America's fallen heroes."
The "Harrison Design" company submitted the drawings to the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Fine Arts Commission on Friday.
Architect Nicola Léo Charbonneau, a partner at "Harrison Design," is working on the project.
A source familiar with the project previously told the "New York Post": "He is a highly talented classical architect. His work is primarily focused on religious architecture, but he is indeed a real classical architect and not just someone who copies and pastes columns."
Weeks before Trump took office in January 2025, architectural critic Katsby Lee published an article calling for the creation of a Roman-style arch to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, according to the source.
The president was also planning to organize a mixed martial arts fight involving up to 25,000 spectators in the South Garden of the White House to celebrate the "America 250" event.
This proposal comes after a federal judge halted Trump's $400 million project to build a large celebration hall next to the East Wing of the White House.
Construction has already begun on the structure, which spans 90,000 square feet and will include a 25,000 square foot hall adorned in gold for holding official dinner parties and other events.
The Oval Office and other rooms in the White House have been decorated with gold finishes, reflecting Trump’s inaugural speech promise that his second term would mark a "golden era" for America.
Trump has also placed new statues around the White House and paved the Rose Garden to facilitate hosting events there.
