Khaberni - The Drug Control Departments in Jordan and Syria announced in a joint statement today a joint security intelligence operation that managed to thwart the smuggling of 5.5 million drug pills through the Jaber border crossing between Jordan and Syria.
In detail: The statement confirmed that over the past weeks, communication channels were opened and information was exchanged between the drug control administrations in the two brotherly countries following information about one of the regional drug smuggling networks, and its preparation to equip large quantities of drugs for smuggling across the Jordanian border to deliver them to other regional countries via transit.
The statement added that the investigative teams in both administrations, after gathering and exchanging information, were able to identify the targets of that network and their planned method of smuggling drugs in a way completely different from previous smuggling methods using a large refrigerated truck. The intelligence efforts led to the identification of the vehicle and the timing of its movement towards the border crossing and it was monitored and tracked until it entered the Jaber border crossing, where it was immediately seized and coordinated with Jordanian customs and security agencies to arrest its driver.
The statement indicated that a specialized team was formed within the border crossing to inspect the cargo vehicle, resulting in the seizure of 943 kg of material in the form of dough cubes, which were secretly hidden in the vehicle's roof. Upon inspection, it turned out to be Captagon pills in raw form before being processed into small pills, and that this quantity was sufficient to form 5.5 million drug pills after reaching the destination it was intended to be smuggled to.
The Drug Control Departments confirmed that all joint investigative procedures in the case were carried out in the framework of direct coordination, allowing the investigations to continue until the members of this criminal drug smuggling network are arrested.
