Khaberni - Iran, on Wednesday evening, hinted at withdrawing from the peace talks scheduled in the Pakistani capital Islamabad next Friday, conditioning the immediate and comprehensive cessation of fire in Lebanon to ensure its participation as well.
The "Wall Street Journal" quoted knowledgeable Iranian sources saying that Tehran has informed the intermediaries that the continued Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon represent a blatant breach of the initial understandings, affirming that the negotiation table will not be an available option amidst the ongoing military escalation against its allies.
The sources added that the Iranian leadership is seriously considering retracting its decision to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and keeping it a closed military zone in front of oil tankers in response to what it described as "Israeli provocations" as well.
This firm Iranian stance places the truce agreement, which is sponsored by Washington, at risk, as Tehran sees the United States' inability to curb Israeli military operations in Lebanon as exempting it from its obligations to secure global energy corridors.
Political circles warned that Iran's retraction from opening the strait could lead to a new surge in global oil prices, thereby further complicating the diplomatic efforts led by US President Donald Trump to end the regional conflict as well.
