Khaberni - On Wednesday, the House of Representatives approved Clause (d) of Article (13) in the Education and Human Resources Development Bill, which prohibits appeals against the results of the high school exams.
The clause states that "decisions by the Ministry concerning the procedures of the general examination and its results are final, and are not subject to appeal before any judicial or administrative authority," as recommended by the Parliamentary Education and Learning Committee in its decision.
Minister of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Azmi Mahafzah justified banning appeals on results, pointing out that hundreds of thousands apply annually for the high school exam, and after the results, all want to review their marks, which led the Ministry of Education to focus solely on reviewing high school results.
He clarified that the correction and verification of the high school exam papers through to the announcement of results go through 32 stages, all of which are highly precise, inviting members who are interested to examine the process.
The vote on the clause witnessed calls for its amendment to allow students to appeal their results in court, but the majority vote supported the committee's decision to ban appeals on the results.
