Khaberni - Syrian authorities announced this evening, Monday, that Al-Hol camp and its surroundings in Hasakah province in the northeast of the country have been completely converted into a closed military zone.
The official Syrian news channel reported from Hasakah Media Directorate that the Internal Security has imposed a complete ban on the area surrounding the camp after it was declared a closed military zone.
Those who violate these instructions will face severe punishments including immediate arrest and referral to judiciary, leading to stringent prison sentences, according to the Hasakah Media Directorate.
In February, the camp was evacuated and dismantled following the transfer of control from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to the Syrian government in January.
Al-Hol Camp is located near the Syrian-Iraqi border and was originally established to shelter Iraqi refugees after the American invasion of Baghdad in 2003, and then in 2014, it came under the control of the Islamic State organization.
Subsequently, Al-Hol Camp began to accommodate thousands of women and children from the families of Islamic State fighters who were later transferred to a camp near the city of Akhtarin in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
