How Simple Carbohydrates Affect Pregnancy Chances

Khaberni - Irina Kononova, an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Institute of Surgery at Pirogov University, reported that excessive consumption of simple carbohydrates causes polycystic ovary syndrome.
The expert points out that polycystic ovary syndrome is a common cause of infertility.

She says: "Polycystic ovary syndrome is the most widespread cause of infertility, as the ovarian follicles fail to mature. Diet is a major factor in the development of this syndrome. For example, consuming a large amount of simple carbohydrates (such as sweets) leads to metabolic syndrome, which in turn leads to insulin resistance, and hence infertility. Polycystic ovary syndrome can also lead to acne, hair loss, disrupted fat metabolism, cardiovascular disease, depression, anxiety, and cancer."

She notes that high insulin levels in the blood stimulate the ovaries to produce more male hormones, disrupting the growth of follicles and ovulation. Insulin resistance and obesity-related inflammation create a toxic environment for egg maturation, reducing their quality and fertilization capacity. Also, changes in hormone levels and chronic inflammation negatively affect the uterine lining, making it less receptive to egg implantation.

According to her, if physical activity decreases, this process worsens, as the calories derived from nutrients are not consumed but contribute to the accumulation of fat tissue.
