Iraq closes a border crossing with Iran

Khaberni - The Iraqi authorities closed the southern border crossing Al-Shalamjah with Iran on Saturday, following airstrikes that targeted the Iranian side, which resulted in the death of an Iraqi citizen and injuries to others.

Security sources said that the airstrikes targeted the passenger reception area on the Iranian side of the crossing, leading to the death of an Iraqi and the injury of at least five others with serious wounds.

The sources added that the Iraqi police recovered the body of the deceased, while the injured were transported to hospitals, where their condition was described as critical.

Following the incident, the Iraqi border guards announced the closure of the Al-Shalamjah crossing to trade and passenger movement as a precautionary measure amidst the security tensions.

This development comes amid escalating regional tensions and increasing airstrikes in the area, reflecting on the security conditions in the border regions between Iraq and Iran.
