Khaberni - The Egyptian Ministry of Interior disclosed the details of a "shocking" video that went viral on social media featuring a young man harassing an elderly woman who looks to be the age of his grandmother, in the "Hada'iq al-Qubbah" district in Cairo amidst a widespread wave of condemnation and anger.
The ministry said in an official statement that upon investigation, the victim was identified as an elderly woman aged 82 years, and upon questioning, she confirmed that someone had harassed her and fled the scene while she was walking on the street.
The statement added that it was possible to identify and apprehend the individual shown in the video, who turned out to be unemployed with a criminal record, residing within the precinct, and upon confronting him, he confessed to committing the incident as described.
The Ministry of Interior confirmed that legal actions regarding the incident, which is unusual and reprehensible, had been taken.
In the video clip, the elderly woman is shown walking with bags in her hands, while the harasser appears at a distance behind her, and at one moment, the harasser looks back to make sure no one is watching, then approaches the victim.
The shock was evident on the elderly woman who immediately reacted and confronted the harasser who then fled.
