Common Nutrition Myths Heres the Truth

Khaberni - Sports nutrition specialist Abbi Coleman has highlighted several common misconceptions related to nutrition, confirming that much of what is circulated about healthy eating is not based on accurate scientific facts.

In her talk to the "Mirror" newspaper, Coleman emphasized that the belief that carbohydrates are harmful to health is incorrect, explaining that unrefined carbohydrates like oats, brown rice, quinoa, and fruits are an important source of energy and nutrients and help maintain fullness for a longer period.

She added that the problem does not lie in carbohydrates themselves, but in their type, amount, and the way they are consumed, confirming that they do not directly cause weight gain as some believe.

Regarding fruits, Coleman denied the belief that they are harmful because they contain sugar, pointing out that the sugar in them is natural and accompanied by fiber, which slows its absorption and reduces its impact on blood sugar levels, in addition to containing vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

She also touched on the concept of a "perfect diet," confirming that health does not depend on perfection, but on consistency and balance, calling for following a healthy diet pattern 80% of the time and allowing some flexibility 20% of the time.

In terms of cost, the expert clarified that eating healthy does not necessarily require spending large amounts of money, noting that basic options like vegetables, fruits, oats, eggs, and rice are available at reasonable prices.

She concluded by noting that good planning, smart shopping, and home cooking can contribute to preparing healthy and balanced meals at a lower cost compared to processed foods, asserting that balance and moderation are the foundation of any successful diet.
