Due to Bright Colors Warnings of Lead Sneaking Through Childrens Clothes

Khaberni  - An American study has warned that some inexpensive, brightly colored children's clothing may contain elevated levels of lead, posing serious health risks to children - especially infants and young children.

Researchers presented their findings at the American Chemical Society meeting in Atlanta, explaining that the fabric used in some of these inexpensive garments contains high levels of lead. The risk is exacerbated because many babies and children naturally chew on sleeves or collars of clothes while wearing them.

Researcher Christina Avilo from Marian University in Indianapolis, USA stated, "Children are not the only ones at risk of lead exposure from these clothes, as some adults also have a habit of chewing on clothes while wearing them, potentially exposing them to lead risk."

Research from the "U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention" indicates that lead can cause health problems in the brain and nervous system, affect growth, and even minimal amounts of it are extremely dangerous for children.

Tests on Inexpensive Multicolored Shirts

As part of the study, researchers tested 11 shirts from four companies specializing in cheap clothing, including different colors such as red, crimson, orange, yellow, gray, and blue. They found that all samples contained lead amounts exceeding the permissible health limit, which is 100 parts per million of the fabric components.

Results also showed that lead levels were higher in clothes dyed in bright colors like red and yellow.

According to the study published by the "Health Day" website, which specializes in medical research, the researchers concluded that habitual chewing of clothes containing high levels of lead could lead to increased lead levels in children's blood, potentially necessitating medical intervention and special health care.
