Khaberni - Nothing could enter the smart glasses race strongly, in a move that could put it in direct confrontation with tech giants such as "Apple" and "Meta", redefining the features of this emerging market.
According to a Bloomberg report, the company is preparing to launch its first AI-powered smart glasses in the first half of 2027, which will rely on a smartphone for data processing without integrating an internal display.
Direct competition for "Meta" glasses
The expected specifications indicate that "Nothing" glasses will include a camera, microphones, and speakers, placing them in the same category as Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which have been notably popular recently.
Despite no indications of partnerships with major fashion brands, as "Meta" has done, "Nothing" plans to offer a different design that reflects the identity of their devices, known for their transparent designs and distinctive lighting.
Multi-device strategy
This approach follows a shift in the vision of CEO Carl Pei, who is now focusing on building a comprehensive ecosystem of devices, rather than relying on a single product.
In this context, the company is also working on launching new earphones supported by artificial intelligence features, expected to be revealed before the end of this year.
Intense race among the giants
"Nothing" is expected to face strong competition as "Meta" continues to develop its smart glasses, while companies like "Samsung" and "Google" are preparing to enter this market with similar devices soon.
On the other hand, reports indicate that "Apple" is working on a range of AI-supported devices, including advanced AirPods, wearable devices, as well as screen-less smart glasses, as a precursor to launching more advanced augmented reality glasses by 2028.
Challenges beyond technology
Despite the increasing momentum, these devices raise questions related to privacy, especially with the widespread use of cameras and microphones in glasses worn daily, which may raise concerns about filming without others' knowledge.
Nevertheless, "Nothing" might attract users if it succeeds in offering a product with an attractive design and competitive price, at a time when the smart glasses market seems to be on the verge of a new stage of competition and expansion.
