The Jordanian government reduces prices of flour and wheat and fixes the bread price in April

Khaberni - The government announced a new set of measures related to the prices of flour and wheat for the month of April, as part of its continuous efforts to maintain the stability of the prices of Arabic bread, despite the challenges associated with rising production costs, primarily fuel prices which have seen a local increase due to global oil price repercussions.

According to official data issued by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply, it was decided to reduce the price of standard flour by 7.797 dinars per ton, bringing it to 167.475 dinars per ton, compared with 175.272 dinars per ton in the previous month, reflecting a governmental direction to alleviate the burdens on the bakery sector and ensure the continuity of supplying the local market with this essential commodity.

The reduction also included wheat, where the price per ton decreased by 6.083 dinars, reaching 136.238 dinars per ton, compared to 142.321 dinars per ton last month, in a step that contributes to reducing the overall production costs of the bread-making industry.

The ministry emphasized that these decisions are based on the Council of Ministers' resolution to fix the prices of Arabic bread, pointing out that it regularly reviews production costs and reflects any changes that occur, whether increases or decreases, to balance between protecting the consumer and ensuring the sustainability of bakery operations.

The ministry explained that the recent global increase in oil prices has led to a direct increase in operating and production costs, yet the government has taken on part of this increase by adjusting the prices of production inputs, primarily flour and wheat, in order to prevent their reflection on the bread prices, which is considered a basic good for the citizens.

The ministry stressed that the policy of fixing bread prices will continue, with meticulous monitoring of local and global market changes, affirming that the government will not hesitate to take any additional measures that will preserve food security and alleviate living burdens on the citizens.
