Khaberni - With the anticipated iOS 27 update, Apple is preparing for a significant leap in its voice assistant Siri.
Recent reports point to the development of a new version based on generative AI technologies, transforming it into a chatbot similar to applications like ChatGPT and Gemini.
Interactive smart assistant
According to leaks, Siri in iOS 27 will not be limited to executing simple commands as is currently the case, but will be able to conduct interactive conversations with the user, understand complex questions, and execute multi-step tasks more smoothly.
This shift means that users will be able to rely on Siri as a real digital assistant, capable of providing detailed answers, and assisting in accomplishing daily tasks more intelligently and customized.
Among the most anticipated features is the allowing of the integration of external artificial intelligence applications within Siri. Following the previous partnership with OpenAI, Apple plans to allow linking other services such as Gemini and Claude, enabling users to choose the chatbot they prefer to handle their inquiries.
This approach reflects a new strategy for Apple, based on transforming Siri into a relatively open platform, instead of relying solely on its internal technologies.
New interface
Information also indicates that Apple is working on launching a standalone application for Siri, allowing interaction via text and voice, with the ability to review previous conversations, similar to smart chat applications.
It is expected that the application will offer a more flexible experience, with an interface similar to modern chatbot applications, making it easier to use in everyday tasks and work.
Moreover, Siri will also gain advanced capabilities for understanding the user's personal context, such as analyzing messages, emails, and content displayed on the screen, aiming to provide more accurate and customized responses.
Siri will also be able to execute tasks within different applications, and navigate between them smoothly, which was one of the features postponed in previous versions.
Partnership with Google
In this update, Apple will work in collaboration with Google to use Gemini models in developing Siri's capabilities, with the possibility of operating some services via Google servers to enhance performance.
Apple is expected to unveil these features during the Worldwide Developers Conference WWDC in June 2026, with the system officially launched later in the same year, with the possibility of delaying some features to subsequent updates.
Thus, iOS 27 might represent the biggest update to Siri since its launch, in an attempt by Apple to keep up with the accelerated competition in the field of artificial intelligence.
