The Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Yarub Al-Qudah, and the Minister of Agriculture, Saeb Khresat, held an extensive meeting with poultry breeders, to discuss the major challenges facing the sector amid the regional turmoil, and to ensure the availability of stock and the continuity of supply chains for production inputs, especially feeds like corn.

Al-Qudah confirmed that the supply chains are still operating normally, noting that the movement of ships arriving through ports, in addition to land crossings, is proceeding regularly, especially through the Port of Aqaba, emphasizing that the government will take all necessary measures to facilitate the production process and ensure the sustainability of supply chains.

He explained that the ministry will not hesitate to intervene in case of any unjustified price increases by imposing studied price caps, which protects the market and the consumer, confirming that the currently available quantities of corn are reassuring, alongside the quantities contracted for, which are expected to arrive mostly at the beginning of next month.

In turn, Minister of Agriculture Saeb Khresat confirmed that the ministry is working on strengthening emergency plans to ensure the sector's readiness to face any regional developments, through continuous coordination with relevant parties and the private sector, and intensifying the monitoring of markets and production inputs.

Khresat pointed out the importance of supporting small farmers and poultry breeders through financial programs and technical facilities, which would contribute to maintaining the stability of local production and enhancing food security, noting that the ministry will spare no effort in taking the necessary measures to ensure the sustainability of this vital sector.

He emphasized the importance of enhancing the strategic stock of production inputs, especially feeds, parallel to supporting local production, to ensure price stability and meet market needs under various conditions.

In his role, Fares Hammoudeh, the head of the Syndicate for Poultry Breeders, said that the quantities of poultry meat available in the markets, both fresh and frozen, are reassuring and sufficient for good periods.

He explained that fresh meat production is about 28,000 tons per month, while the frozen amounts are around 5,000 tons, calling for additional measures to ensure the continuity of supply and control price increases.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Shdifat, head of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee, called to support farmers to face current challenges to prevent rising poultry and egg prices in the local market, demanding to facilitate the access to production inputs in the upcoming stage and to take stringent measures against those exploiting the situation and unjustifiably raising prices, as per the laws and regulations that govern the market.

Farmers and poultry breeders demanded a package of measures that would facilitate import operations, maintain the fluidity of supply chains, and reduce production costs, thereby minimizing their direct impact on local market prices.

The meeting was attended by the president and members of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee, the president of the Specialized Syndicate for Poultry Breeders Fares Hammoudeh, along with a number of farmers, poultry breeders, importers, and representatives of production input depots.
