Parliamentary Government Meeting with Poultry Farmers to Ensure Stability in Production and Prices

Khaberni - The Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Engineer Yarub Al-Qudah, and the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Saeb Khreisat, held an extensive meeting with poultry farmers to discuss the main challenges facing the sector, amid the repercussions of regional disturbances, and to ensure the availability of stock and the continuity of supply chains for production inputs, especially feeds like corn.
Al-Qudah affirmed that the supply chains are still operating normally, noting that the movement of ships coming through the ports, in addition to the land crossings, is proceeding regularly, especially through the Port of Aqaba, emphasizing that the government will take all necessary measures to facilitate the production process and ensure the sustainability of the supply chains.
He explained that the ministry will not hesitate to intervene in case of any unjustified price hikes by imposing studied price ceilings, and to protect the market and the consumer, assuring that the quantities of corn currently available are reassuring, alongside the quantities ordered, most of which are expected to arrive at the beginning of next month.
In turn, Minister of Agriculture Dr. Saeb Khreisat confirmed that the ministry is working on enhancing emergency plans to ensure the sector's readiness in the face of any regional developments, through continuous coordination with the relevant authorities and the private sector, and by intensifying market and production inputs surveillance.
Khreisat highlighted the importance of supporting small farmers and poultry breeders through financial programs and technical facilities, contributing to the stability of local production and enhancing food security, pointing out that the ministry will spare no effort in taking the necessary measures to ensure the sustainability of this vital sector.
He emphasized the importance of enhancing the strategic stock of production inputs, especially feeds, in parallel with supporting local production, to ensure price stability and meet market needs under various conditions.
In turn, the president of the Poultry Breeders Union, Engineer Fares Hamoudah, mentioned that the quantities of poultry meat available in the markets, both fresh and frozen, are reassuring and sufficient for good periods.
He clarified that the production of fresh meat is about 28,000 tons per month, while the quantities of frozen meat are estimated at about 5,000 tons, calling for additional measures to ensure the continuity of the supply and to curb price rises.
On his part, the head of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee, Dr. Ahmed Al-Shdiefat, called for supporting farmers to face the current challenges to prevent the price rise of poultry and eggs in the local market, demanding facilitation of the production inputs during the coming phase and taking strict measures against those who exploit the circumstances and raise prices unjustifiably, according to the laws and regulations governing the market.
Farmers and poultry breeders demanded a set of measures that would facilitate import operations, maintain the fluidity of supply chains, and reduce the cost of production, which would limit their direct impact on local market prices.
The meeting was attended by the president and members of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee, the president of the Poultry Breeders Union, Engineer Fares Hamoudah, along with several farmers, poultry breeders, importers, and representatives of production input stores.
