Ministry of Agriculture Poultry Prices in Jordan Among the Lowest in the Region

The Assistant Secretary-General for Animal Resources at the Ministry of Agriculture, Misbah Al-Tarawneh, confirmed that poultry prices in the local market are primarily dictated by the supply and demand equation, amid the sector being impacted by global variations, particularly related to production costs and inputs.

Al-Tarawneh explained during his talk to "Al-Mamlaka" that Jordan enjoys self-sufficiency in poultry products, along with a strategic reserve that suffices for more than three months, affirming that the supply chains for core inputs, such as yellow corn and soybean meal, are operating at normal levels and cover local market needs.

He pointed out that any price increase is directly linked to the rise in global production costs, including shipping, energy, and insurance costs, due to regional and international conditions. He noted that the ministry is working on diversifying import sources and choosing close and secure origins to reduce costs, such as shortening the maritime transport distances.

Al-Tarawneh clarified that the Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with relevant authorities, is continuously monitoring market conditions, and working to oversee production inputs with the aim of curbing cost increases, which positively reflects on poultry prices for consumers.

Regarding the imposition of price caps, he explained that this authority belongs to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, which studies production costs and profit margins, and makes appropriate decisions at the right time, emphasizing that, for now, there is no inclination to impose price ceilings, and that prices are still within normal levels.

He added that poultry prices in Jordan are among the lowest at the regional level, despite global challenges, stressing the ongoing coordination between government agencies and the private sector to ensure market stability and product availability.

Al-Tarawneh noted that the government adopts a gradual approach in making economic decisions, balancing between consumer protection and sector sustainability, amid regional tensions and global price rises.
