Khaberni - A recent study revealed that getting an extra 11 minutes of sleep each night could significantly reduce the risk of heart attacks, at a time when about 40,000 people die annually from cardiovascular diseases in the United Kingdom.
According to the new analysis that included 53,000 middle-aged British adults, small adjustments in lifestyle can have a significant impact on heart health, including walking an extra 5 minutes a day or increasing the amount of vegetables in dinner meals.
The study, published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, showed that these simple changes could reduce cardiovascular disease risks by up to 10%, while people who followed healthier lifestyles were 57% less likely to experience heart attacks and strokes.
The study pointed out that the optimal lifestyle for heart health includes sleeping eight to nine hours a night, engaging in moderate to vigorous exercise for more than 42 minutes daily, alongside following a healthy balanced diet.
In turn, Emily McGrath, a leading cardiac nurse at the British Heart Foundation, confirmed that small adjustments such as increasing sleep or physical activity or the consumption of vegetables can come together to make a tangible impact on heart health, emphasizing the importance of consistently maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The official guidelines of the British National Health Service include limiting the consumption of fatty foods, regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, reducing consumption of alcohol, and quitting smoking, as part of promoting cardiovascular health in the long term.
