Khaberni - Dr. Megan Rossi, a gut health specialist, warned about three staple foods sold in major stores, confirming that they do not provide any health benefit to the body as many people think.
Rossi stated on her Instagram that these products may seem healthy and easy to prepare, but they often contain chemical additives and sugars that the digestive system does not need, making them less beneficial than the consumer thinks.
Pasta sauce
Rossi explained that ready-made pasta sauces sometimes contain sugars and unnecessary preservatives.
She said, "Always read the ingredient list on the package. Choose sauces with simple ingredients, preferably rich in tomatoes and olive oil for more health benefits."
Nut butters
Rossi added that nut butters often contain palm oil, emulsifiers, and sugars, which do not benefit the digestive system at all.
She noted that the healthy choice is nut butters made solely from nuts, without any additives, confirming that the oils and stabilizers added are only meant to give a creamy, uniform texture.
Ready-made wraps
Regarding pre-made sandwich wraps, Rossi said, "They are marketed as being healthier than regular bread, but they often contain emulsifiers, stabilizers, and added sugars."
She emphasized that the optimal choice consists of only flour, virgin olive oil, water, and salt, stressing "this is literally all you need."
Rossi said these additives, including emulsifiers, stabilizers, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, and colors, may preserve the appearance of the food and its shelf life, but they are not necessary for the body, and may negatively affect gut health in the long term.
The specialist confirmed that returning to simple, natural ingredients is the best way to maintain digestive health, away from over-reliance on manufactured products.
